Ben, looks like we'll be able to sort out funds for you and Jodie to come so make sure you both book the date!
Just added a mystery American DPCer to our list of probably attendees - waiting to see if he/ she will go ahead and book the cheap flight they just found!

Thanks for the PM, Kavey...date looks fine to me.
Don't mind where we go or what we do, just sounds a great day out.
River area sounds good to me, evening shots of Eye etc are good...as long as I can get my DSLR sorted by then...poor little Fuji doesn't like dark very much!
I'll keep track of the thread to see what crops up regarding times, meeting point etc.
Thanks for all your effort on this.

No trouble, Steve!
And woo hoo, we have another Mystery American DPCer who is very likely to get to the UK for the meet... if the boss grants leave which they should do this far in advance!

I presume we'd want to do as much of the route as possible, which would be Westminster <-> Greenwich?

Hi guys, I've given the final date to my g/f and unfortunately she can't get the day off work and I'd feel uncomfortable travelling to London on my own so I'll have to sit out once again :( Sorry!

Yeah that would be good ... though I'd rather not spend too much time in Greenwich given that we spent the last GTG there...

you could always get the river bus from Westminster and get off at my favourite place the stop before Greenwich at Docklands (my favourite sculpture in London is also near the pier on Westferry Road; it̢۪s a tree made out of traffic lights), and then you can get the tube back to Westminster. Seriously, the station at Westminster is just bloody fantastic, with a maze of stairs, concrete columns, and exposed structure in a large expansive void of space.
Of course, this plan would only be okay if the weather were nice enough for the boat trip in the first place – perhaps greeting, eating, and quaffing should be in the West End, and then decide what to do afterwards? Maybe playing heavily by ear might be sensible??

I think that's a good plan - meet for lunch and drinks in the West End and finalise our plans from there dependent on weather and who shows up!

I hope you don't mind me saying, but I used to travel all over Britain on my own, including around London well before I was your age... come down, we'll look after you. Are there any specific things that bother you about the journey? Where are you coming from? |

For me, it's not that I think the City on a weekend doesn't offer photographic opportunities - I know it does. More that I just don't enjoy that deserted ambience...
So... can you join us?

I can see where Ben is coming from. Without sounding patronizing I too was once in the 'London Fear'
I remember being about 20 and never really venturing to London much, a lot of my mates were i London University's, my sister lived in London but I never really wanted to go into the 'big smoke'
Then a job came up which financialy was huge at the time. Right in Central London. Thus I had to force myself to venture in and as soon as i got off my tube, man was I excited.
The hustle and bustle, the variations of people and the atmosphere was such a buzz when your not used to London.
Within a month I was going out all night partying after work, not going home, and basically loving it (Although that ruined my then relationship :D )
1 Year after that i moved to London, ST Katherine's Docks where i overlooked Tower Bridge - fantastic times.
I only moved out 2 years ago due to starting my own business. Now I return every couple of weeks for beer with buddies. (party this Saturday Whoo!)
In essence what i am trying to say Ben is that if you come down on your own, man you'll love it. Also you will probably have a really big sense of self satisfaction and want to come down every weekend.
Without sounding cheesy. Living and being around London changed my life in more ways than one - made me a much better person if not a little arrogant at first :D
As for meeting the strange DPC dudes, well that's just worthy of another thread. :D

Ben - just get down here mate.
Don't worry about the girlfriend you can pick one up when you're down here, and if you survive the journey, the gun-toting drug dealers and the scary traffic you can relax with a pint in an historic city where the atmosphere is 5 parts oxygen, 5 parts carbon monoxide. We'll all be wearing breathing masks too so you won't feel out of place if you bring one with you.
Did I mention that you're never more than 30ft from a rat in central London?...
:D

Hi Ben - As you will be travelling from Bristol to London, I will get catching the train at Reading. Once we have train times sorted I can meet up with you on the train.
I can understand how you feel, I think most of us have been there in some way or another when we were around your age.
