Well, the first decision you got to make is what type of photos are you going to take most of the time.
I have a G2 and I have had to give up on sports photography, my favorite kind.
I can't afford the camera I need..a Canon 1D. At $4,900 for the body and over $3,000 in lenses I need to save my pennies for a bit or hope for technology to get a bit chearper :-)
The DSLR's from Nikon (D100), Canon (D60), and Fuji(S2) all are wonderful and for anything but low light motion photography would be awesome.
But so much of my time in the fall is used to shoot football pictures which are normally high school stuff under low level stadium lights I can't live with the Auto Focus difficulties of the Canon. Fuji is a real possibility but the Nikon has some soft focus issues I don't care for.
And don't wait on the foveon technology. It is a year away from serious contention and you are buying the glass of a sytem more than anything and Canon/Nikon glasss is the best for the money (forget Zeiss..too expensive and limited to specific bodies) but those lenses wont be able to placed on a foveon tech camera for over a year.
A Nikon D1H and D1x are very nice too (for all you Nikon folks out there) but if you arre gonna spend $4,000 might as well go for the baddest boy on the block and that is the Canon 1D in my opinion.
