Ok. So I decided to finish cataloging my 2004 images in anticipation of the pending Best of 2004 challenge. I generally burn the originals and any master edits I'm happy with to DVD then catalog the originals off the DVDs into Extensis Portfolio 7. From there I manage the keywords and galleries and whatnot to make images easier to find.

Yeah, so anyway I got a bad piece of DVD media yesterday and before I knew it I'd apparently clicked through a warning (from the DVD burning software) and jumped over to Portfolio. I started cataloging the images and headed out to the in-laws for an early Sunday supper. Riiiiight. I get back and my catalog is hosed. Won't profile any more images. I shut it down and it won't even open back up. I decided to start a test catalog and just see if that last DVD can be profiled into Portfolio. Nope. It hosed that test catalog. Hmmmm. Now what to do. Luckily I have today off so I'm just feeding 50,000+ images off DVDs into Portfolio (that doesn't count all the older stuff on CD's that still has to be converted). Ahh the joys. Now its not enough to backup the images, I have to backup the catalog everytime I add a DVD apparently. hehe Oh well, lesson learned. Hope I can prove a cautionary tale to someone out there.

Happy New Year,

Kev

Thanks for the warning, and better luck when you catalogue your portfolio for 'Best 2005'
