or would I?

Young gwasshopper, you must learn the deadly art of the of the twipod before you can master the next step... monpod disembowelment.

Terje,
If you handle your tripod well & faithfully, with the tilt-arm properly aligned, you can deal death without any harm whatever coming to your manfrotto, except for needing to clean blood & bone chips, possibly brain tissue, off the pan head and tilt arm.
Just so you know, friend :-)

I guess that's why the police are starting to see photographers as possible deadly terrorists. (LOL) |

I just got the Manfrotto 3001BN with a joystick head and I love it already I think I'll stick to using it as a tripod though. |

I guess I'd rather hit someone with my Tripod than with my camera -- using your camera as a weapon could get pretty expensive. Although, I don't think a tripod is as good a choice as a monopod, but that's just me.

Deapee,
It's all about MASS, man; your average tripod has triple the mass of a monopod. More mass = more damage. Unless you're conna use it as a spear or javelin, in which case the monopod is the tool of choice...

I don't know, sure, it's partly about mass, but it's also about ease of use. I know I could swing my monopod around better than my tripod for sure and probably get a few more hits in that way. Say you had a 50 pound club -- you get one swing, you miss, you're dead. Now swing a billy club like the police have and you'd get quite a few shots in so you could miss a time or two and still be ok.
--
On another note, more than mass, it's about how fast the object comes around and hits someone. Obviously, the heavy camera in the bag with the lenses and batteries and everything would be the best choice if, in fact, your life was really threatened because of the momentum it will carry. But like I said, that's could get expensive.
EDIT: I felt I should add that I'm just kidding -- the best tool is your feet, just run. :-D

I just thought of a great use for a tripod...
You know that screwy thing at the top, well, it fits in the bottom of a camera!! You could put your camera on it to take photos??
Anyone else thought of that?? |
