Last night my 70-210mm D lens arrived, so of course this morning I had to do some comparison shots between it and the 18-70. These are the only interchangeable lenses I've ever owned, so this is pretty cool! Does anyone else do this kind of silly stuff?

I think it's funny that I can be 48 inches away with the 70-210 and can focus closer than when I'm 9 inches away with the 18-70. I know that's how it's s'posed to work, but still ;)

on a related topic- does anyone know if the instruction manual for the Nikon 70-210mm f/4-f/5.6 D lens is online anywhere?

somehow the pics dont' make much sense to me unless you cropped the image and its not fullframe.
70mm at 9inches has less zoom than 210mm at 48 inches which is weird.

Nope, they're all full frame. Like I said earlier in this thread, "I think it's funny that I can be 48 inches away with the 70-210 and can focus closer than when I'm 9 inches away with the 18-70. I know that's how it's s'posed to work, but still ;)"

Andi, I totally understand!! I do that too, with lenses and/or different cameras.
Only difference is that I would pick a different subject.
I set something up that has different colors, textures; some things with stripes, some with text etc etc etc.
That way, I have a lot TO compare, and can get a better understanding of which lens/camera is best for what purpose. |

Oh yeah- this was just sitting in my office, pulled the new lens straight out of the box, stuck it on the camera, turned around and shot. If I had spent some time on it I would have never made it to work tonight ;)
When I got here (work, that is) I immediately went to the conference room window and shot about 60 photos of the sun going down. Can't wait to get 'em home and see how the new lens did!
