I know we all have digital cameras but I was hoping that someone would have some experience with film scanners and can recommend a good one. I want to be able to get high quality scans from slides and negatives in order to create quality prints.

I recently bought (like last week) an HP5470c Scanner. It comes with the attachment that does slides and negatives. It cost $69 at ABC Warehouse and I think it does a pretty darn good job, especially considering the price. My friend and mother-in-law were also very impressed so Friday I ended up buying 2 more of them. It is WinXP compatible, hooks up parallel or USB. The ONLY thing I've found I don't like about it is that it is very large. Maybe bigger is better. I know I don't have $1000 to spend on anything that doesn't say "mortgage" or "taxes" on it but for a pretty small investment, it does the job at my house. Additionally it works really well thru photoshop and is pretty easy to use.

Thanks. I actually have an HP flatbed and I ordered the slide scanner attachment. It does a beautiful job with my photos but a terrible job with my slides. My co-workers are going to chip in and help me purchase a really excellent scanner (I can't afford one on my own) in turn, they have about 500 slides for me to scan and they require professional quality. They figure it would be cheaper to pay me 1.00 a slide rather than over 2.00+ at the pro lab. I think you got an amazing deal on your scanner with the slide attachment! I know I paid $90.00 just for the attachment for mine (and it stinks!)

Best information on film scanners that I have come across is at:

//www.imaging-resource.com/

Click on the "reviews" link at left, then the "scanners" tab at top.
