I might buy this lens that is MF because I can actually afford it :) I don't really trust my eyes that much so my question is if you have a manual focus lens, will the camera (D70) still light up the indicator when it is in focus? I noticed that happens when I'm using my AF lenses in manual focusing mode...just wondering if it lights up with manual focus lenses as well.

Thanks

I have the Peleng 8mm Fisheye which is a manual lens. There is no chip on the lens mount so the camera can't communicate with the lens. The camera can still meter with it and select shutter speed but aperture info and focal length is not displayed as the lens doesn't relay the information (it displays 0).

I also notice it doesn't blink the focus indicator even though the images taken are pretty sharp. I'm not sure if this is so because it's a manual lens or it's just the nature of the fisheye and I set the focus to infinity. Hope this helps somewhat. Maybe others can chime in with a more useful response.

Which lens are you thinking of buying? You didn't mention it..

On the 20D if you hold down the shutter button half-way while manually focusing the focus points will flash as you pass through 'correct' focus.. Not sure about the D70, I've not played with one that much.

Bran- I assume your MF only fisheye will do the same thing, I've only done this with AF-EF lenses in MF mode. (Don't you just love acronyms.)

Cheers, Chris H.

I know on the AF lenses, the focus point will light up in MF when focus is achieved as I do this with all of my other lenses. I do not notice this with the fisheye lens though. Maybe because the focal length is so short and it's used for extremely wide angle. Someone with a "normal" MF lens may be able to answer this question.

i was at the 'lens store' yesterday researching used lenses for Canon. The onwer told me that only Canon AF lenses will work on a Rebel/20d, etc. - the older MF lenses will not. Where as Nikon D70 etc wil take all hte Nikon lenses.

Now you all seem to be saying something different...HELP! If i have a Canon EOS camera, what lenses will physically work? AF only or ??

My Fuji in MF mode will tell me if i am in focus or not, if that helps any.

I think you are confused with AF and EF. You should be ok with all Canon EF lenses ( AF stands for Auto-Focus, while EF is their lens mount). All EOS cameras support the EF lens. Canon Rebel and 20D support EF-S type lens mount as well. But yes I think EOS systems don't support Canon's FD mount lenses, you might need an FD to EF mount convertor for that.

Thank you. I am confused apparently. Does that explains why I bought film for my 602? Nah, the alcohol might explain that though. or was it alcohol...when you ask a wino for a drink you can never bo too sure I guess.

yeah, so the camera store is not in the best part of town...the bums are friendly! LOL
