This is a shot I took in July. A female Ruby-throated Hummingbird had smashed into one of the windows at my parents' cottage. My wife Julie rushed outside to find this little female passed out in the grass. She picked the bird up and kept it warm in her hands to stop it from going into shock. Have to keep them warm.



After a few minutes she came around, sat on Julie's finger for a few minutes and then flew off. Our good deed for the day.

I have also included a 100% crop (actual pixels from camera) to show the detail of the hummingbird's throat and cheek feathers.



This shot is straight from the camera except for the crop and slight curves being applied. Now I know why they say the Canon 50mm f2.5 Macro is one of the sharpest lenses you can buy.

Just thought I'd share.

Very sweet capture. Aren't they just beautiful birds? You really did capture some amazing detail with that lens. Good job!

Amazing little birds, great photos. Very compassionate for you guys to rescue the little gal.

good thing your brother didn't find him ... he'd have stuck him in a jar till the necessary challenge presented itself.
