Hi,
I am showing here 2 pics 1 taken with 10x zoom and other with 2x multiplier giving me effective 20x zoom ....

10X //amitkulkarni.info/10x.JPG

20X //amitkulkarni.info/20x.JPG

As you can see somehow i dont feel i got effective 20x zoom ... seems something like 12 to 14x zoom

2ndly i got a blurred image ... but pronounced in the corner is this Barrel Distortion ??

Is it worth buying that extra zoom Tele Conversion?
thanks

wow definately doesn't look like 20x to me. and the focus seems way off. Something broken in the converter or in your camera -- do all your shots at "20x" turn out like that?

It looks like the image is somewhat in focus in the middle but falls off very quickly away from the middle. This would be a problem with the teleconverter. Poor quality converters tend to do this from what I have read.

I use a 1.75x converter on my Canon G3 without this issue. The converter is the Canon converter.

Is it a third party converter you are using or an Olympus? I would suspect third party.

Since your camera seems to do a good job on its own I would just use your feet for any other zoom adjustment or just take the picture at max zoom, max quality and then crop it afterwards.

Just my thoughts.

Unfortunately it seems to me that you would get better results with the "digital zoom" or simply in photoshop than with this teleconverter.

Can you please tell us which converter it is?

With a teleconverter you should be able to look through it with your eye and see the 2x magnification. From your photos it does not look like there is any reason to use that converter as you are getting better resolution without it..

nice "colour" picture. did you use a tripod or lay the camera on something solid?

I think not. Think thease equpments will always reduce sharpness and image quality. Just go closer when you can but othervise concentrate on other kind of photography.

A good friend of mine has an Oly 740 and has the TCON17 teleconverter, I was very impressed with it and bought myself a TCON17 to use with my FZ2.
