I heard the term 'DVD 9' the other day. Does anyone know what in the heck I was hearing? I did a web search and all that came up was 9.4gb dvd recordables. Is this what that is?

Help!

DVD-5 is a single layer DVD format, and are the size of most of the recordable DVD's on the market now.

DVD-9 is dual-layer, with a larger capacity. The content can not be written completely to DVD-5 disks, but there are dual-layer DVD writers on the market lately, but the cost of the blank disks are very high.

DVD 9 is just the dual-layer disk that you buy DVD movies on now. Brit is right. The disks are very expensive. Seems a waste with the HD-DVD coming by summer. 30-50 gig storage on a single disk is insane.

And the burning of dual layer is very slow. My writer will write 16x on DVD+R, 8x on DVD-R but only 2.4x on DVD-R DL. That's a big difference.

DVD-HD looks interesting for a reasonable price, how about 200Gb Blu-Ray (2006). :)
