Sorry for the dramatic title - but sometimes drama is the best way to attract attention :P.

I was wondering whether the colour or BW was more effective here. Thanks.

While I'm at it I posted a couple of other shots to my portfolio - one in particular is kind of out there editing wise and another just for interest . So any opinions on those would be terrific.

Cheers

The first one in color is superb in my opinion. I really think it has vibrancy, life and great composition. The colors are sharp and saturated, and just a striking image all around. I also like the pushed processing on the boat - it is very graphic and engaging.

I have to go with the color one, it has such a nice combination of colors.

The color version is more interesting in my opinion.

the color version is so interesting, i don't feel that the b&w even compares (although it, too, is interesting). i am in between liking and not liking the processing on the boat photo - maybe a tad too high for my tastes. the last one, i would like to see them grounded a bit (for whatever reason, i don't know why) if possible.. ie: see the ground they are attached to.

Definitely more interesting, the B&W seems a bit dark also. The contrast of green on blue is great and the subtles colors of the rocks creates a more interesting shot. The B&W is more moody.

The boat shot is way too much contrast for my liking, it just losses my interesting.

The last shot is OK, just nothing really dramatic or interesting to me. The angle is a bit much and the framing seems just a tad off as part of the tree is cropped off on the left.

Ok I hope you don̢۪t mind a lengthy comment. I like the colored version and I am going to try to tell you the best way I can. I have studied both photographs and the colored version is wonderful, full of like, the colors are vibrant, the lines and texture is there. On the other hand the B&W version [good] but does not give me the same feeling.
When I critique a photograph like these I try to put myself at the bottom of the picture looking forward as you and the camera did. With that said the B&W version gives me a feel of darkness, gloom and no future. Do I want to climb the hill? Does it matter? It seems that over the peak of the rocks I̢۪m going to find the same. BUT when I look at the colored version I see myself standing in a darkened area looking at the hill that is brightly lit by the sun with a wonderful blue sky. It makes me want to stand up and climb the rocks to feel the warmth of the sun and to see what on the other side of the peak. It drives me, it moves me, it gives me reason to not only view the beauty that you have captured but at the same time wonder what is beyond.
Hope this emotion critique helped. Just my opinion and congratulations on a great shot.

From the original two, the color version seems better. I like the five old men the best, though. Except i would also like to see it in color, and the cut off piece of the leftmost tree is not a good thing to have. Don't know if it was cropped that way... But i suppose that's fixable in ps.

I really like the color in the first one, everything seems to blend just perfectly. Great Work!

Mind a lengthy comment ?? Come off the grass. (to confuse you with a particularly aussie saying - for these purposes just take that as meaning "of course not - lengthy comments are great :P).

I posted the original comparison because intitially I liked the black and white one better - I think I must have been having a gloomy sort of a day, but when I reconsidered the colour one struck a chord (maybe my mood had improved - I don't know). As for the others - i know the processing on the boat is waaaaaaay over the top - but for some strange reason I like it that way - when I get better at editing I'll try and come up with a moody, less outrageous version. The five old men are unfortunately pretty much straight out of camera - nothing can be done about the crop, - they were surrounded by a bunch of other trees so it was hard to isolate them - I tried but I guess I didn't quite pull it off.

Anyway, Thanks a lot for all the comments, and of course any more would be great.

Cheers.
