Ok so I know that flag photos evoke strong feelings both negative and positive...

I ask for a critique on the techs of this image...

If you feel strongly about the subject then express your feelings...but I ask kindly for a critique of the techs as well...

Thanks!

No emotional response.. :-).

As for the photo... It's technically a good photo, sharp and has good colour, but it's not leaping out of the screen at me.

Probably a personal taste thing, but I think this photo would be good as part of an ad, or in an airshow report as a lead-in picture...

Maybe because it has no definate point of interest? Not sure. The person is not detailed/bright enough to be the focus, The flag is all very good, but my eyes just roam all over that looking for a focal point.

As always, just my 2c worth, and thanks for sharing...

Cheers, Chris H.

Flags! Flags! Not more damn flags! Ok, I got it out.

Great shot! Good crop, focus and color. I think it works well and might look good blown up.

I, for one, don't like flagphotos much. Esp if it's just a photo of a flag for no good reason. (BTW there are good reasons for doing a flag photo, see the flag photo from WW2, i...(something) with marines raising the US flag). [/rant]

This is, surprisingly to me, a good flag photo. Brings a new perspective into play and is a photo of a parachute jumper with a flag (not of a flag with a pj attached). As is said in comments on the photo itself, the cloud is in an awkward place. But for me, the biggest complaint (and it is really not that big) is the kinda "washed-out" effect on the colours. The sky seems to be too pale. The flag itself seems to be OK. The parachute is too dark.
You asked for it. It's now your job to make sense of this.
Cheers

EDIT: flag trailing, you mean :)

EDIT #2: one little ,

I dont think it is so much about 'another flag image' but how the flag is presented. This isnt just another shot of a flag on a pole, it's more dynamic and it has other elements that interact with the flag. The fact it is a flag is almost secondary, the point is that he is skydiving (or whichever) and is trailing something behind him. As for the image - the exposure is good with the backlighting on the flag making it glow somewhat. The crop is good with good diagonals and lines.

Technically, I think it's nearly flawless. Color balance is good, exposure is great, sharpness is great. My comments about sharpness only apply to this web sized image. I really couldn't speak to sharpness, noise or artifacts at full print resolutions. (or full resolution as shot).

I hope this helps.

It's a picture of a skydiver and the flag is secondary. Very well composed be it by crop or camera, it works very well. Only thing wrong with it is that I didn't take it.

I love it. First it is quite a dynamic image. An image many photographers wish they could capture. I can safely say this is an outstanding flag shot. Good work.

Thanks once again for your thoughts and critiques. I appreciate the efforts!

You must be joking. It's not really a flag shot. It's a nice photograph with a flag in it. A flag shot is different, if you haven't noticed already.
