move the files to a new directory/folder. then copy 'em to the "work" folder and do your PS-magic on 'em. But never change the originals. They have embedded EXIF time-stamps and will be required for validation (if you're lucky for top 5, or if somebody thinks you're cheating)

Dang, did you *have* to exclude the first 15 challenges? How about just the first 10? LOL. My first submission was a blue ribbon. And it was legal. But it was only challenge #13. :(

Thanks.. especially the bit about only working on a copy! I will hunt up the data - can only find imported info - not exposure dat stamp currently.

One advise: alway use the max size for photos in competitions here. Small photos do really bad, no matter the quality of the photo. set the size to 640 (max) on the longer side and let the img.manipulation prog set the other side in relation. good luck

1) How many others had a suspicion about that photograph?

In the past most of the first entry winners got DQ'd for being outside of the dates. DPC is one of a very few websites that have a date requirement and I'm sure a lot of people just see this as just another photo challenge and dont even pay attention to dates. It is only natural to assume that the pattern will continue in the present and future. Sometimes a first entry will be legit, but more times than not they arent.

2) Can a photographer place a disqualified photo on DPCPrints? And if so, would anyone buy it? It was a spectacular photo that had the potential of generating some sales. And no, it wasn't me in disguise. I'm just curious

Yes. Mavrik had his snail shot dq'd for invalid dates and he uploaded it as a print and as I far as I heard it was sold a few times. It's also up as a stock print and does quite well in that avenue too.

If you would like to send me a sample original I can put it through our proof submission process as a test and check it out. If you would like me to do this please PM me for an email address.

I have to admit to a selfish giggle when I opened this thread.

When the results came in on Sunday, I was 101st. I was hoping for at least 1 DQ to put me in the top 100. Thanks. ;)

If you click on an image and get info (command-I) in iPhoto, it will show you some of the EXIF data, including the dates. To submit a valid proof file, choose Revert to Original in iPhoto (in case anything was changed), and then export that file as-is to your desktop for uploading.

You know, I actually thought I had seen that photo someplace before, and not at this website. I do not recall where or anything, but it just rang a bell with me. So yes, I had a suspicion.

In other news, my image surges all the way to 157th... :)
