I am just beginning to think stock, and don't know much about it - mostly what i read here on DPC.

It is interesting that folks will accept 20 cents but balk at 15%-49%. If you image sells for more than 40 cents you are getting less than 50 percent at shutterstock. Without knowing shutterstocks member/user figures and such i can't say what percentage the photographer is actually getting(of the money collected in sales b the site), but i bet it is under 5%.

It sounds like a micdonalds theory - low prices, sell lots of 'em. It works for some i suppose, but you won't find anyone calling themselves a chef working at McD's.
If you all will accept 20 cents a pic, perhaps I should open a site - 99 cents a pic. You, the picture taker (sorry, you don't get title of photographer if your work is selling for 20 cents) get OVER 20%. Whoo hoo! Or maybe if you're really good, i;ll give you 50% - and sell the pics for 49 cents each. Volume - we'll make our money with volume!

Seriously, does anyone make more than beer money at shutterstock or any of the online beginner stock sites?

lise gagne or whatever made over 40 grand last year on istockphoto and istockpro

From the discussions I have had with rachael and the significant amount of time I have now put on her site with submitting over 1500 photos, I think rachael is encouraging people to submit shots and encouraging them to do so with money-- the more shots, the more money. Also the better shots, the more you get paid. I think being pinupinoo is a new site it is wise on her part to encourage submissions to build up her library hence increasing everyones chance at making more money.
just my thoughts.

Istockphoto pays 20%, but charges 1-3 dollars..again, pennies.
istockpro is tougher to get into, but the prices they are selling the images for is MUCH greater - $150 to $300 each - now 20% of that is more like money.

sell one of those at $150 or 150 copies of an image at 20 cents. Both get you $30.

You tell me what your time is worth.

We pay out well over 35% of the income we generate from sales.

What is the harm of putting up a bunch of shots that are sitting around on your hard disk doing nothing at all? They are not collecting 20 cents or 20% of anything. We all have em, everyone is probably near 10,000 shots or better, I took that many with my PS Pro 1. I have a bunch I like that will never see the likes of a Stock Site, but I also have enough that are hanging about doing nothing at all that I probably won't get back to do major edits anyway.

As Ron says about that Ronco Roaster oven, set it and forget it. Throw a handful of good stock pics on one of the mass appeal stock sites and let em go. I'm not going to try to make of living of it there, just a supprise check every so often for beer or lenses.

In my case I have a ton of pictures that are not doing anything for me at all.

I have heard almost nothing for the last month from Pinupinoo.com...I have only submitted about 8 photos because all of the ones I have submitted still say Pending after well over a month. There have been no e-mail or web site updates.

I was going to be committed to this and spend a lot of time on it but things are just too quite on the other end of the line...

Can anyone enlighten me here? Who else has submitted to this new site?

Has anyone tried Rohn Engh's PhotoSource Bank?

Again I ask...has anyone heard any updates whatsoever in the last few weeks? Today is February 1st and I've almost given up on this site...

I think the site says something about March.

I know, but the few photos that I have submitted have been 'pending' for about a month...I won't jump in with both feet until I see that pinupinoo is a living, breathing company that sells...

If you are starting in at the ground floor of anything that has growth potential there are benifits. Also understand that this is a company that is just starting out and realizing any noticable profits from this venture may take years if it happens at all. If you are the type of person who is short on patience it may be best for you to look toward a better established organization.

Are you involved in this? You seem to know what you're doing with selling photographs...do you think I should wholeheartedly get on board?

My other concern is that my images aren't really stock-like...I'm just not sure what to think...

I don't think I can give you any better advice then what I have already given. A new business is always a gamble. I personally would not recomend the one you are interested in, not because it is a new business, but because the percentages to the photographer are far below the industry standard.

I have read several of your posts that state negative things about the online stock 'agencies' and I'm generally in agreement with you (whether it's about the low overall payouts or low percentages)...

What do you recommend? I would love to sell my photos, especially for somebody to actually use...

Nothing against online stock agencies, just the ones who low-ball the photographer. There are literally hundreds of them out there that pay a standard 50% or better and pay more than a thousand times over 20 cents for usage. You're online. Grab a search engine.

I feel a bit the same way. The guide that was to be written for uploading over Xmas-New year is still not up so I am waiting for that. The photo's I have uploaded are still sitting there pending.

I have no doubt that it is being worked on but we simply arn't seeing anything, maybe if the forum was up and running or it had regular updates.

Its been a very busy month for me so I haven't done much for it but I would like to get focused on my photography for it.

Gurilla, that's exactly how I felt. I received an e-mail from Rachael today after she saw my post here, so I'm hoping the communication improves so that we are not having to chase for updates.

I was also under the assumption that the "News and Updates" section on the website was up to date, but apparently much more has been going on. I'm unsure as to why all the photos are 'pending', so hopefully I'll hear back from Rachael.
