Im trying some new stuff. Contrastly black and white with some ::gasps:: added grain.
My brother was playing some bass, and i decided its time to take some pics. busted out the tripod, and snapped away. Shot at ISO 1600 and slow (like a 1/60).
Anywho, here they are. Comment as much as youd like. (good/bad/or just plain ugly.)
More new techniques to come from me later on. (might just stick them all in this one post as time goes on.)

I like them both. They're both moody and have nice tone. I'd like to see more of your brothers hand. Maybe slap or finger picking too.

Have you tried going with a slower exposure to maybe capture the motion of the strings? That might add something to it. |

Nice, but I don't find them 'contrasty'. If anything, they may be a bit flat/grey. I'd boost the levels to make the blacks and whites pop! |

Sorry, but they don't do a lot for me... the lighting seems a bit flat, and I'd like to see more imaginative compositions.
I like your Band trypich shots, and your Bass Guitar shot. I think it's time now for some shots of instruments which aren't taken straight on... how about some different angles? Your shots are also very dispassionate, looking almost purely at form. How about exploring colour and mood?
Hope this is helpful,

Your 'Guitar' shot in your portfolio is also very nice, but again, taken straight on in a very dispassionate way. |

More contrasty ones.

I prefer the constrasted ones although the top one might be a tad oversharpened. Good job overall. |

I like the second set a lot better. I do agree with part of what Bob said, see if you can find some unique angles.

I also agree; it would improve the overall "flatness" throughout the photo that I think is not the idea behind the photo. I want to feel the energy of the guitar but seeing it flat on and in low contrast does not help.
