Just figured I'd share this shot. I actually started disassembling my old computer out of boredom and figureing I might find something nice to take a few shots of. This is the hard drive for those of you who haven't seen one. Oh, and I highly reccomend everyone take one apart, they really look neat in real life.

What's even more fun is to hook one up after you take the cover off. You can even run drive diagnostics, read & write data to the drive, etc., until of course the inevitable happens and the dirt & dust in the air causes a head crash.
Older drives have a much higher "fly height" (the distance the head floats above the platter) than new drives, and will actually run for quite a while in a relatively clean room.

cool, I'll go plug it into my 120 outlet right now. j/k. That drive is pretty old I think. It's 20 GB. NO way in hell I'm ripping apart my new 80 GB just for a picture -- unless someone really wants to see it lol j/k I aint taking it apart.

nice shot.

what's also fun is playing with the platters. they're so flat and smooth, if you stick them together, they become pretty hard to separate. oh the memories of cubicle life...
