Decided to submit something at the very last minute. I think it meets the challenge, but it's a little outside the square so it will likely be a very up and down week. It's on 5.7 now, and that's where I'd expect it to finish. I guess I fell into the trap of submitting for the sake of submitting. |

Wait, I think I know which entry you're referring to. :) |

Erghhh.... so much for "creatively" capturing the word broken - last time I try that. The 'not meeting the challenge' posse has caught up with me. Funny thing is I actually took the image with the challenge in mind - it wasn't a case of just having something on hand and throwing it in. |

Just a reminder that you shouldn't directly refer to specific current challenge entries...

My photo was something of a found inspiration, just kind of getting lucky. But it always bothers me that for some reason, certain photographers get many more comments than others... My pic is at 4.5, with no comments yet. And I think it may be one of my better pics too.

Well, it feels good to have an 'update' button once again! I honestly feel like I've got an amazing photo in this challenge (a perfect mix of timing and composition) and I hope I get a lot of comments...so far I'm at 1 with a score of 5.48.
In my photog's comments I said I would give my photo a 6.8 and I predict a score of 5.7...we'll see how I do! |

I started with 1 vote @ 7.0 then I received a 5,7,& 8 and was sitting at 6.7500 then the bottom dropped. I'm currently at 5.2558 with 43 votes and no comments. Looks like another 'middle of the road' photograph for me. I can't seem to submit the right photo at the right time. lol

i wanted to rate some 8's and 9's in this challenge, just not seeing anything worthy of that.
just some notes:
if you use the challenge title in the title of your photo, i think it means you're reaching and your work cannot speak for itself. i take away marks for that.
so many broken light bulbs and broken homes.

I didn't title my photo "Broken" because I knew that voters would "take away marks" for doing so. I have 'taken away marks' for titles which only serve the purpose of linking it to the challenge but it's unfortunate that you would make such a blanket statement.
I really think "Broken" would have been the perfect title for my photo...instead I had to give it a different title.
Edit: And yes, taking an object, breaking it, then photographing it seemed to be the most obvious way to approach this challenge...I wasn't surprised to see so much repetition, but what do ya do? But I'm generally biased against 'setup shots'...

You can give my entry a 9. i won't old it against you;)
Titles..there is a whole line of thought on that. Since the challenge has a title, perhaps NO entry needs any title. I only look at the title AFTER i have decided on the pic, or if i don't get it. Some folks use the title to get a cat or dog into every entry, if you know what i mean.
And remember, please DO NOT mark down your vote because you've see 100 lightbulbs or homes or whatever. It may be tempting, but it is not fair. |

Last minute feable attempt. I decided not to enter it. Broken mirror with the Windows default desktop reflected on it. Broken Windows I was going to call it. I know.....lame (not a great shot either). That's why I didn't enter it. I've learned something anyway.

Since the challenge has a title, I think using the same word for the photo is exactly the same as calling it "Untitled" or leaving it blank. It seems to me that ideally the title of the challenge should be a perfect title for the photo if it is an appropriate entry -- I can't see marking someone down for using the challenge theme as their photo title. |

Sure, but if the challenge is "time" and you've got a guy rubbing his stomach and the photo is titled "time for lunch" it's just getting a little ridiculous...I can understand saintaugust's point as there are many many cases of this in most challenges, but sometimes the photo does suit the challenge perfectly and can be simply and aptly titled the same as the challenge. |

fair enough.
it's just that some people use the challenge title to really stretch - basically my reasoning is that the person just happened to take a shot they liked in the challenge timeline and they know it doesnt fit the challenge, but hope the title will sway people anyway.
it's just my opinion.

I may get some hate replies [lol] because of this but this is how I feel.
1. I don̢۪t believe a photo should be voted down because of the title unless the title is the only thing linking the photo to the challenge.
2. I don̢۪t believe a photo should be voted down just because there are X number̢۪s of the same type photographs.
3. I don̢۪t believe a photo should be voted down because one has seen in the past. If people do that then the Deja Vu challenge should be a low vote challenge.
4. I don̢۪t think a photo should be voted down because it is a set up photo. That may be the photographer̢۪s only means of taking pictures.

I like the idea (even if Mr. Gates wouldn't) but wish the desktop reflection was a little easier to make out. I'd have maybe tried the same thing using the startup splash screen with the giant Windows logo.
I probably would have used this for my entry, but it was taken a week too early

My first thought was "Marks,,,,he takes away marks, as in....more than one??? Good lord, considering that you already stated that you have not yet seen anything worthy of an 8 or a 9, that means that the highest mark you would dole out would be a 6. Seems a bit severe. Have you considered perhaps not looking at titles, and voting solely on your perception of the photograph, which is what the competition is really about. |
