Being on a budget I couldn't go pick up the glass that I want for my 20D, so I looked around, read tons of budget lens reviews, ran across the Quantaray - 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6. Couldn't find any bad reviews (actually no one reviewed it) and Quataray is sigma so they say, so I got one.

Well I found it to be unuseable on the 20D (Doubt it's worthiness on any camera). I shot a days worth of pictures and found about 3 to even be useable. All soft (not dSLR soft) with detail missing even on the small end. Post processing was of no use.

For one there is no clarity on anything below f/8. Low light is a no go with this lens.

Useable range is up to somewhere around 200m and you need to be shooting around 1/250 or 1/300 to make anything legible up there. Far end on a tripod on a sunny day using timer and pics were still unusable by what I am used to.

Needless to say that lens is happy sitting back on the shelf waiting for next unsuspecting victim. I exchanged it for the kits sister lens the Canon 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM EF, and I'm finding it to be a treat (plastic mount and all) to work with until I can get the good glass.
