I thought about submitting something along these lines for the yellow challenge - in an attempt to come at both the colour yellow and the cowardice aspect of the colour.

I know it probably wouldn't have appealed to the masses, but any thoughts would be appreciated.

Edit was just curves adjustment (the halo around the word 'ran' is purely fortuitous - right place, right time.).

Anders, I`ve long since given up trying to work out what has mass appeal on the site, but for what it`s worth..I like it and would have given you a decent score had you submitted it.

Cool photo, I would have rated it a 7 or 8. The color, lighting, and the unique perspective that throws shadows over the rest of the building is great. I really like it.

Ok, now it is my turn. Here is my outtake:

I had thought about submitting this but decided against it because my other shot (which is totally different) is pretty unique. As it turned out, my other shot is almost scoring exactly "5". So, what are some thoughts on my outtake?

Its beautiful capture... i like textures and colors... makes interesting picture. I would gave good points too.

These are both really nice shots.

samtrundle: I would have scored your shot somewhere between 6-8, depending on the level of the competition. I think it is really interesting and think the color and detail are great. But, I wouldn't have made the connection with "ran" unless your title was really clever.

aquapreta: I would have given yours a 6. I like it, the composition is decent, the subject is interesting, and the coloring is great (maybe a little wide on the interpretation of "yellow" but close enough for me.)

Nice work, thanks for sharing.

I can honestly say I wouldn't have made the "ran" connection either. I still would have scored this highly, I like the moodiness & the composition.

Unfortunately I have no outtake to show. This is because I never had time to shoot, stupid finals week I tell you! Also I couldn't find all the ingredients I wanted to use for the shot. I like the boat picture, it's cool. I think you coulda pushed for a brighter yellow with it maybe. But that's about it.

keybosh,
I hope your finals went well. One of my daugters who is in college just called last night and we discovered that she does nothing that she truly enjoys: she works two jobs and goes to school fulltime. I told her to quit one job and let us help a little more. I plan to buy her a digital camera for Christmas. I know she would love this site. Thanks for reminding me how busy and overwhelming college can be. Your post reinforces what I already know.

Yellow challenge entrants - I am amazed at the creative minds. Many entries show amazing effort and thought. I am ashamed to say my shot what one of the mundane, trite entries. My score shows it.

Pssst... Kathy, you should edit you post to remove discussion of a photo in a current challenge :)

Thanks, kirbic!
Sorry all. Still getting the hang of this.

samtrundle,
I agree with kirbic and really like the composition and moodiness, too. I would have spent some time thinking about why you highlighted the word ran, but I would have contemplated the "Saint Francis" message. I don't recall Saint Francis being a coward, just that after fighting in many battles, he got sick and had a vision. It was then he went home. Am I missing something (probably) The fact that the light comes from the bottom of the frame would have made me think that your message was possible a negative or sad one. The angle of the shot, looking up to the image, indicates to me, reverence, so in all honesty I don't think I would have "gotten" it. But I still like the image. I would have given this photo an 8

aquapreta - nice sunset. Pretty picture. I would have given it a 5, because it doesn't really make me think and doesn't stand out as unique or especially creative. Very pleasant and calming, though.

Nossa, que linda! Bem, nao acho que o povo aqui apreciarie tal foto no "Yellow", mas sei que eu teria dado uma boa marca. Gostei!

Dartomkins.... both your outtakes are really cool... I like them a lot. The second one I think would have done particularly well,as the first one (beer ??) could be construed as orange. Aquapreta... that's a really gorgeous sunrise/set - and unlike some of the others actually in the challenge it doesn't look particularly doctored to enhance the yellow.

As for my image...I would have titled the image "Like a coward" or something to that effect - just to try and beat it over the viewers head :). Main reason I didn't submit is because my olympus camera has a nasty habit of resetting the date if I take the batteries out for more than ten minutes (something which I conveniently forgot about - and to get the same lighting would have required shooting at the exact same time of day - a right royal pain). Anyway, Im not too annoyed. With the standard of this yellow challenge I think I'd be pushing my luck just to break 5.5.

very very cool - an easy nine, possibly a ten if i came across it during my voting. i love the industrial feel of the shot, the griminess and the style. sort of thing that definitely appeals to me. jolly good show!

Ronald is brilliant - you should have hacked the exif data on that puppy :P....instant ten from me!

I hate to say that I would have given it a solid 7, incase you are not doing that well, but that is what I would have given it. Great picture. Do not try to appeal to the masses, just try to appeal to yourself. If you are happy with the picture what does it matter what others think, unless your trying to make a living at it.

Thanks Puma, as I said, I didn't submit it cos of date issue mainly... and I couldnt produce anything else decent so currently I'm not in the game... technically its not an outtake :P.

KDO - I wish I was that deep - I just associated the word Ran with cowardice :P.

Thanks.
I actually had a more "yellow" version that I considered, but darkened it a bit just because I liked it better. It does look like beer, but it was actually dish detergent.
