I know there are a multitude of charities and etc but I just thought I might share this idea with anyone that may like handcrafted gifts.

While on vacation this past summer we came across the Southwest Indian Foundation.

Quote:
SWIF is a non-profit, charitable organization that relies solely on private donations. We receive no federal dollars. Our primary sources of funding are not huge corporate gifts or impersonal grants. Instead, they are individuals like you. Americans helping Americans.

SWIF assistance is strictly limited to Native Americans - with priority given to the elderly, handicapped, and families with dependent children. Along with the Navajo people, we also serve the Zuni, Hopi, and other pueblo tribes of the area. End Quote:

Online Donations

The Indian Craft Catalog provides a national outlet for Native Americans to sell their precious handmade goods. The profits from this catalog go directly back to the Native Americans themselves.

Online Catalog

My wife collects Angels so I ordered her some of the hand painted Angels that they have in their online catalog:

Just thought I would share this idea for gifts or donations :)

Thanks for these links, I'm bookmarking them for the future. I've always patronized the Heard Museum in Phoenix, AZ because they support the native arts, crafts and heritage. My entire family loves Native American "stuff", so I'm sure the SWIF will be hearing more from me!
Thanks!

Glad to help :)

If you order their Free Catalog I think it has more items in it and it explains their work in more detail.

I ordered a Christmas Food Basket Donation in my wife's name and online it does not show everything that is included with the donation. But in the catalog it explains it all:

Food Items

Turkey - 20lb
Potatoes - 20lb sack
Pinto Beans - 4lb sack
Backing Powder - 24oz
Canned Milk - 6 5oz cans
Sugar - 5lb bag
Veg Shortening(low fat) - 2lbs
Stuffing - 12oz box
Coffee - 13oz can
Table Salt - 26oz
Canned Corn - 16oz
Canned Peas - 16oz
Canned Green Beans - 16oz
Rice - 32oz
Low Salt Crackers - 16oz box
Canned Cranberry Sauce - 16oz
Canned Yams - 40oz
Canned Peaches - 16oz
Canned Pears - 16oz
Fruit Drink - 1gal
Flour - 25lb bag
Raisins - 15oz
Oatmeal - 18oz

They send you a card that you can give to the person you made the donation for.

We got hooked on the Native American crafts during our vacation to New Mexico, Arizona and Utah. My wife collects Seraphim Angels and the Native Angels will be a nice addition :)
