Yellow!
I was wondering if any of you would be willing to hook up a little project for me. I am trying to develop a web site & would like the opening page to be a flash animation of an eight-petalled lotus flower. Basically I want the flower to begin closed & when someone comes to the page, that it opens up & each petal will be a direct link to a page/section of the website.
Is this a crazy hard thing to do? I really have no idea of what it takes to do this.
Any help, advice, would be greatly appreaciated
thanks in advance!

no, it's not too tough. It depends on how fancy you would want the lotus animation to be. The actual hyperlinking is easy
PM me if you need help/advice. If you know how to animate, what you're looking for shouldn't take much time at all

it could be done probably with a photo of only a single lotus petal used once for each link needed. the actual image would be smaller to start, and could be duplicated ( for each link ) to save bandwidth even more.those duplicates arranged closed onLoad, with code to make them open after all the data has been cached, or even when moused over.
i'd have to see the motion of how they open though, and what the petals look like.
the links would fade in as the petals opened.
could be probably done under 60K depending on the petal image.
i may be able to poke around with it over the next week or so.

I hate to be the poopoo head, but you may want to avoid using Flash animations for navigation. I think Google has been verified to be able to index Flash text, but I'm not sure about other search engines. The same effect can usually be obtained using DHTML and careful Javascripting.
If you do go the Flash route, just be sure to provide alternate navigation for users who opt to turn off Flash.
Some reading for you to consider:

Flash is a fantastic program, easy to use too.
Using Flash5 and Swift3D and no training. |
