okay, so during the whole 7 challenge there was quite a bit of woody hate talk and i feel my entry got some of that wrath. i also did surprisingly really bad which makes me very sad :( so, tell me, was it that my photo was faulty or was it the subject?

| The softness of the image may have affected the scoring. I think a closer crop of the subject may bring up the score. I couldn't tell that it was candy until I read the title. |

I am guilty of using woody but always think twice about using woody. Make sure you have a unique idea. This idea was cute but not compelling to hold total interest. I notice that your work is very nice and that you have a very good eye and a good comp sense, but again use woody with discretion. lol Here is my woody in digital version.

Hi Lizzyc3,
I did not vote in the Lucky 7 Challenge because of time issues but I believe the setup may have affected your score. What you are trying to achieve in this picture is a good idea but maybe if you would position another object in the picture, a small wine glass, bowl, or a small table next to him or her and placed the other six pieces of candy on it. The way you have it now does not look natural making me wonder how you stuck the candy on the woody than enjoying your picture.
Hope this helps.

Cute shot but really soft and yea, the tape presents visual problems.
Good try though, next time would glue would work better :-) |

I did a woody entry for the humor and ended up with a score of 5.2. I thought it deserved a little better than that, but at least it appears that the woody-haters didn't cause the low scores. Not sure what did, but I can't blame the woody-haters (surely would like to tho!).

I commented on your shot and gave youa solid 5. (higher than my score...). Seems unbalanced composition wise and a bit soft.
And like I said, had Woody been smiling...

The woody guy seems to work well when it is used in a way that seems almost human. I have been shocked on several occastions by how expressive an image was with what is essentially a faceless wooden doll. The candy on the arms kind of broke the almost human aspect for me. Maybe one piece of brightly colored candy that clearly in focus would have worked better, but then you loose the 7 aspect.
Don't get discouraged and keep shooting!

| I also didn't vote but the problem with this image for me is that it just doesn't make sense. Why does he have candy on his arms? Like Nusbaum said, the image would be cute with just the one piece of candy but then wouldn't fit the challenge. Otherwise, I like the gradient of the lighting and the composition of the shot although like many mentioned, it could stand to be sharper. |
