A lot of the photos that get posted on here, for other photographers to critique, are some-what personal, or meant only for the members here. Like this thread for example //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=105822
I searched YAHOO for why shoot in RAW and up pops that thread 5th from the top. I didn't realize that these forums would pop up in yahoo.
Is there someway that we could make it so only people who are registered users or members could see the information in the forums?
Thanks.

Publicity isn't necessarily a bad thing. If it weren't for the threads showing up in Google or Yahoo, I never would have found this site. As long as you don't write or show anything embarrassing, you have nothing to fear. |

Why?
The forums are available to anyone, including guests. I am not sure why that is a bad thing. |

Oh I'm not saying it's necessarily a bad thing -- I guess I just didn't realize that these forums themselves were searchable through yahoo.
I'll just have to remember never to post an embarrasing photo I guess. The Member's forum isn't accessible to anyone but members though, right? So say I had a photo of my girlfriend that I didn't want anyone else but the others on this site to see I could post it there? I guess that's a stupid question as I suppose anything you put on the internet can be seen by anyone. hrmm I guess I under-estimated the search engines.

So you want to limit the exposure to only the 30,000+ total strangers on this site? |

Rather than the half billion perverts online? Sure! :) (Reality: we're all photographers or photography-interested - we're not looking for "pics of hot babes" - except Jacko)

yeah because I don't think the people on this site are out looking for pics of naked women -- just here to learn and help learn.

Given that:
A: I'm pretty sure not all of the thousands on DPC are perfect angels
B: Anyone with access could copy your image and show it elsewhere
C: Just because something is accessible on Yahoo doesn't mean that a bunch of people will ever see it
Why would you ever post anything questionable or sensitive online at all? |

I actually do kinda do see what your saying know......
But it is open to all. But I really dont think perverts want to come to this site to look at nekid girls...Lord knows they they can find it anywhere on the net easier with many more girls in about a zillion other places (or so I have been told)

Anything you post on the web, even if in a somewhat protected way, may end up getting indexed in the search engines. Unless there's no link to it, whatsoever, or it's in a password-protected area, chances are it'll eventually get indexed.
If you don't want a photo of your GF popping up on some pervert's screen, don't post it in a public area.
I think this speaks to the recent cheerleader photography thread... There are perverts out there, they use the internet, yes. Is that going to stop you from using the internet? Is that tiny percentage of people out there going to inhibit your photography and your search for meaningful feedback?
Heck, there might be some pervert out there collecting photos of girls elbows. Does this really concern you? I seriously doubt that if someone sees a photo of your gf online they're going to start stalking her. Or virtually anyone besides your gf, for that matter.
Like I said before, if you're truly that concerned about it, don't post photos, but it's an irrational fear, in my opinion. Be more concerned about the perverts she runs into in real life. |

This is why you will never see a pic of me or MY gf naked online! But I think I understand the motivation in a way.

That's what I was trying to say -- perverts aren't here signing up at DPChallenge to see pics of nekid chicks...but if they are in yahoo and search for some model named 'ann' and the word naked and in my post i wrote 'ann naked', and that pops up first on the list in yahoo, that brings the perverts here.

Also, in the first post, I'm sure that photographer and his model didn't realize her pictures would be floating all around the internet just by searching yahoo for 'why shoot in raw' or maybe possibly even 'doing it raw' or something like that that perverts might search for.
I guess it just seems like the photos we post here for review shouldn't really be accessible to web searches (if there was a way to put your photos so you needed a username and password to see them, that would solve the problem) -- because I doubt people are going to come here, and make a username/pw just to see a photo -- they'll just click the X and search again.

next question... even if this does happen, you won't know about it, so what do you do? lose sleep? |

This would actually be very easy for the mods to do. You can put code into a page that tells search engines not to index your site/pages/section... But try to convince the mods that it's good for DPChallenge NOT to come up in search listings. :) |

Exactly. I'm an advertisement whore...put my website address on the bathroom wall, I don't care. I want the traffic. :-)

Every single thing on the net is searchable through yahoo and google. Even your profile. You can enter a persons user name and every website that that name appears on will show up.
I think its very very rare that you can't google something.
