Hi I build custom machines (as a job) and I sell them. I have to say that if you want a PC for gaming the BEST BEST BEST option is to build it yourself. These companies like DELL and GATEWAY dont really make the type of PC for upgrading or with the right specs for playing HARDCORE games. might i suggest you make your own machine it is really not so difficult these days its more like a big meccano set. I would be happy to offer you any help you need.

AMD ATHLON 3000+ CPU is fine
1GB RAM DDR 400
ASUS OR MSI OR GIGABYTE for motherboard
RADEON 9800-XT pro / Nvidia 5950i for videocard 128/256RAM

For gaming the impotant things are really RAM and video speed. What i listed above is more than good enough for gaming IMHO

If you have loads of money and want to buy a machine ready made then i suggest a company like ALIENWARE happy shopping.

Speakers

Speakers are only useful if you want to play music for more than one person. Headphones are the only choice for games. If you've been playing with speakers, switch to a quality set of headphones. Your game will improve dramatically and people will start calling you a hacker because they just can't understand how you knew where they were.
