Explain how I can make these borders without an action that uses automatic edge spot editing or edge softening filters that automatically edit only a section of the image.

Loved both the pictures but I just can't understand how they were allowed. Pictures have been disqualified for tiny problems in the past but this is so obviously against the rules (as I understand them). Probably woud have been fairer to the photographer to disqualify as I think that people will lower their votes, which is a shame cause they are great pictures.
