Hey, that's the best way to get a kickin cowgirl! I need to make one of those Abercrombie style innuendo shirts for the ladies. "Mike's Wild West Ranch: Yeehaw! Bucking Bronco. Ride em long and hard, cowgirls."

I also have a pair of cowboy boots w/ boot chains laced with spikes & .38 shells. They definitely look badass. When I go camping or to the rodeos, I go all the way with the cowboy theme! I'll bring them on Sat to show ya.

I always have my cowboy hat in the trunk, you never know when it'll come in handy. Here's what it looks like: Outback Hat. It helps me blend in with the locals when photographing rodeos.

perfect. Now do have a model release? Nah, i was thinking a silhoutte shot anyway.

Ok, I guess we'll all be there at 8AM still. The gateway clipper ramp is in the pay parking area. I really don't want to pay for parking if it's raining and we'll be leaving for the aviary anyway. So, I'll be parked up on the curb / median until I'm told to move by station square security.

You mean you went to bed? Sleep - a waste of time. I mean, you can do it when you're dead, right?

January 29th GTG

Are we still on?
Where and what time?
-since we cannot predict the weather, the National Aviary maybe? I think they have butterflys (or was that Phipps..). Macro, low light, flash, action...what a challenge!

Hi everyone, I found out about this from Justin on the Fred Miranda Forum. I'm all about getting together in Pittsburgh. I went to the aviary last winter and was disappointed because most of the birds were behind these wire barriers that screwed up alot of my images.

BUT, i'm up for anything. I live by the zoo in Highland Park.

PS, check out my website //www.brianthechemist.com

Actually, sky replacements can be quite difficult. Try it with a big tree against the sky with lots of branches you can see through sometime. That is challenging and I'd like to be able to do it much better than I do. Selection and feathering are the key.

You picked an easy one with an easy horizon. I noticed that you cut off the left side for your sky replacement where it would be a bit more challenging. :) :)

Thinking back to the aviary, I do remember a room where the birds were allowed to fly free, so that could be a good place to hang out. For most of the "cages" they use taught wire spaced about 1cm apart and put the bird in a room. The problem arises whenyou use a flash, as even though the wires are not in focus, the flash (necessary because the lighting is pretty poor) lights up the wires, throwing the exposure off and putting OOF white lines in the picture. Granted, last time I was there, I brought my film body, so I couldn't experiment to get rid of this effect (especially because I didn't realize it happened until I got the pics developed!)

anyone know when they open? Its probably not 8am!

I've been to Phipps, the museums, and the zoo before, but not the Aviary. That's why I suggested it last time. I'm not even sure how to get there, I'll have to print out directions. I know that it's somewhere in the North Side.
