I think it would be useful and very informative if there were a place to enter the lens used (for DSLR users). Similar to the F-stop, ISO, etc. I find it frustrating when I see a great photo and want to learn how the photographer captured it when they just list the camera (Rebel, 20D, etc) and I don't know what lens was used. Any chance this could get to the Admins? Would it be difficult to add to the standard form already in use? What do you think?

I like this.
But the admins seem to quite busy now with their ot of DPC life (what is that?) and this seems to involve a bit of coding.

It would prolly have to be: Lens: (ie 17-40) and for zooms at (ie 25mm)

The really cool way of doing this would be to have on the preferences page a way of entering lenses and that would automaticly become info in a dropdown menu on the relevant page picture posting page.

Been suggested a bunch of times. See this thread.

Note that because of cropping, the small size of DPC images relative to full-sensor images, and post-processing, evaluating a lens based on what you see here is somewhat of a crap shoot. Even if somebody says "I took this with my 50mm", once it is cropped, that information is no longer useful since you have no idea how much or how little of the image that was originally captured remains for you to look at. Also, reducing an image down to 640px hides many lens issues, such as "softness", chromatic aberation, etc.

You would think with so many people suggesting it so many times, that maybe it might be a good idea. I see your point about cropping, but a lot of us are here to learn techniques, options, etc and knowing where other photogs start off from would really help. With all those links and threads, the L&D have never weighed in what THEY think. Seems like a great topic for a "question of the day".

I have trouble seeing how this would be a challenging feat to code. It's just another field in the database, and one more line in the text when output. That being said, a bunch of "little enhancements" often creeps to take a lot of time, this being one of many things people have talked about... But simply adding a field shouldn't be a big effort.

I'd rather have the new DPC prints than a lens field, so let's not distract them :)

One thing that folks can do is to c+p their EXIF data into the image description. The EXIF from many cameras includes the lens data as well as most of the relevant camera settings. Not an ideal solution, but it's a workaround to kill some time.
