Are the telephoto and wide angle lenses for the S7000 and s5000 actually worth buying? And how much do they retail at? I saw them for £100 each but that seems a little steep. Are they any good?

I have the Finepix S5000 and have purchased Off-Brand teleconverters for my camera simply for the "cost" concern. I can simply say that what I had purchased is crap. I figure that the Fuji lenses must be better but I was too cheap to try them out. I would suggest that you hold out that cash for a DSLR. Just my thoughts. |

I'm leary of buying off brand also, I heard a few ppl say they make nice paper weights. Don't know why fuji wants to sell them so high, hell thats about half the camera's price. I just don't get it. |

That is where you really have to sit down and think whether you want to build on a mid-range camera hoping it will turn into something that it is not. If you want performance like a Ferrari than you may have to buy a Ferrari. Simply adding some gadgets to a Ford will not make it into what you want. Again, save your money for a DSLR where you have greater choices in quality lenses. |

The higher price is partly because of better optics and better optics simply cost more. Just like "Why is a Canon L lens more expensive as a kit lens?"
Good converters are mostly made by the people who know what making good lenses is all about. Like Fuji (not for dSLR's, but the make them for Medium Format I believe), Olympus, Canon etc.
The Fuji teleconverters are simply good, just like the Olympus t-con17. Those lenses give less chromatic abberation, less distortion, better contrast and more sharpness. Be aware that there still is chromatic abberation and it can be quite harsh. But it will be less than cheap lenses and even less than the Raynox stuff.

If anyone is in Holland, I might want to sell my t-con17, used a few times on the S602, good condition. I believe that it works on the S602Z, S7000, S20, many Olympus cameras and many others. Don't have a price in my mind right now. It is used as a paperweight because I now have a D70 and a 70-200 F2.8 VR Nikkor. :)
I will sell it without the 55-55 extension tube that you need for the Fuji's.

I bought a .42X from Jessops for my A40 and it worked O.K, tried it on my 602z and it`s cr@p.
I have heard that Fuji`s own lenses are fairly good bit that the magnification is a bit on the low side .79X compaired to the Olympus one .7X.
I`ve seen the Fuji .79X for £90 and the 1.5X for £87 but is includes the adapter ring.
I still have my 2.4x tele from the A40 which works on the 602z
