The more time I spend on this site, the more amazed I am at the growing membership and the loyalty displyed to certain manufacturers. I also see a reoccuring discussions on various products and free endorsements from those who already use them. What is the best place to buy this or should I buy another brand etc? Surprisingly, this may be a very coincidental opportunity that should be investigated. As an example, Nikon gets a whole ton of "member flag waving" and also some excellent photos taken by their product. Has the idea ever been tabled to get the manufactures to pitch in a "Sweetener" for ribbons won by their product? I can see that the burden of giving free stuff may be costly and impractical over the long term but the idea of getting rebates, or coupons, directly from the manufacturer would be realistic and can be a great marketing tool while providing a "real" prize. I suspect that I would likely steer away from off-brand accessories if my cameras manufacturer was to offer this sort of incentive. We are an enormous community and I'm sure that these companies would see benefit into tapping into DPC through this generous incentive. Any thoughts?

First thought is I have seen something similar at other sites. Very cluttered sites, what with advertising and all (pertaining to the giveway this week/month/etc).

Flag waving comes from the deep seated need to justify one's decision. If i shoose X brand, then I beat the drum for them so I can convince myself i made the right decision.

Staying with the same brand for SLR owners is due to the investment in lenses.

I moved from a Fuji to a Fuji. No real plan there, was planning a dRebel, but a friend got one and was selling his Fuji cheap. Easy learning curve as many things are the same (icons, menus, etc). I would get an S20 if i was staying prosumer, S2 if SLR, but the D70 is cheaper. I prefer Nikon over Canon, based on experience with Nikon optics and Canon cameras and printers. No quality issues, just human-machine interface issues.

Might be nice to get monthtly or annual 'prizes' or a Christmas giveaway - as in you get one entry for every challenge entered in the past year - winner gets a new tripod or something.

Maybe this thread needs moved to Site Sugggestions...

Sponsorship would be such a bad thing if the site didn't get too commercialized. Allowing only one sponsor at a time, maybe, for a one month period. I'm sure some of the bigger vendors and manufacturers would love to tap into this marketplace. All they'd need to provide would be a decent prize. It's been debated before though and I think the general concensus was no. Aside from that, it's ultimately a Drew and Langdon decision.

If something like this were implemented, I'd rather see an entry for every comment posted during a challenge...lord knows that something most everyone wants is more comments, so why not spur people on?
