Well, this is the first time I've commented on every shot in a challenge. I just finished leaving comments for every entry in Lucky 7.

I hope I didn't offend anyone. I was honestly trying to be helpful and constructive.

Just trying to get my comment karma back in proper balance. :^)

Congratulations on this effort. The comment is so important that no one can comment enough. To me it is the best way to learn because you force yourself to look at the entity of the image. In doing so, one sees novel applications of lighting, composition and creative use of the camera. Yes, one forces one self at the start, but slowly the element of pleasure overtakes the experience. How can one not learn when doing your own shots? The commenter develops a discerning eye and this feature alone makes you a better image grabber.

Great job...I actually sent you a private message as your comments were exactly what I was going for with the image. Keep up the honest and constructive feedback and we'll all become better photographers.

graphicfunk: thanks for the support. i agree with commenting having an impact on my own shots, it just doesn't seem to get reflected in my scores. :(

rmtm333: thanks and got your pm.

Thanks BikeRacer...

I'm sitting low to mid 4s at the moment and yours is the only comment! If it wasn't for you I'd still be scratching my head as to why so low.

This seems as good a spot as any add this... I recieved a PM from somebody on whose picture I had commented on. My thoughts, now that I have sat back and had some, were that I appreciated the feedback as well. Everybody talks about how much help it is when someone posts feedback to their photos, I personally was very happy to hear back something about what I said. I agree that during the judging is not the appropriate time to do this, but afterwards a quick note is helpful, and also is positive reinforcement. That sort of thing will have me commenting more, rather than less.

Just my thoughts on it.

gurilla:
well, i don't hold myself out as an authority here, but i'm glad my insight gives you some perspective.

giega:
yeowch! no, i don't think i could do it again so soon, plus i rarely ever really look at challenges that i haven't entered. i don't feel like i'd have any good "take" on the challenge without having thought about it for myself first.

dpdave:
i've had the same reaction - it's really nice to get feedback on the feedback. i'll make a point of trying to close the loop on future comments i receive.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on all the photos, BikeRacer. But the comment you left on mine makes me wonder what your monitor is set to. Your comment is diammetrically opposed to someone else's comment, and that is different from how I see the picture (on three out of four monitors I've looked at it). It just goes to show that the resolution on different monitors gives different results (there was a thread about that somewhere). Oh, and the same is true of my humour picture - it looks completely different on a badly set-up monitor (on a computer that's running Window ME, for goodness sake.).
Edit: typo

Hmmm. I noticed that a lot of my comments on this challenge included something about the shot being too dark - if that's what you're referring to. I am starting to think that my monitor is set a little dark. The strip at the bottom of the voting page looks pretty good, but maybe I need one of those Spyder things to calibrate it properly.
