in a couple months i'm going to be travelling to thailand and india and will be backpacking it. i can't bring my laptop because i want to travel light. i know nothing about portable mass storage but would like people's opinions on what is out there and what the best bang for the buck would be. the only thing that comes to mind right away is the x drive and an ipod. what others are available?

I use an Archos Gmini 120. 20gb's and it has a built-in CF card slot and its USB 2.0. I paid around $160 a few months back. It's saved my butt many times. :D

And it doubles as an MP3 player.

Another vote for the Gmini, though I have the 220.

I went for it because it has the best battery life of the options I explored, and it plays mp3s : )

The only problem is that like the iPod, the battery is built in, so if it dies when you're out and about that's it, game over. It gets me through a full day's shooting at the track though (up to 1000 raw images), and that's all I need it to do.
