Could also be a landscape landmark. (Right?)

Well, it doesn't have to be reknown, I imagine. Just any monument of sorts. I plan to photograph a local monument (guess which one :o) ) so I imagine anything that represents something would work |

Just be prepared to get a few low votes due to the voters perception that if they don't recognize it, then it is not a landmark. See my Authority entry and comments for verification of that one!

Actually, I think I got hit from the same subject in Heroes, because it wasn't a Soldier/Policeman/Fireman. Not that I'm complaining about the score, it's my best yet :) |

Your advice is probably and unfortunately accurate. However, if it were entirely true, there'd be absolutely no hope for those who live in places where real local landmarks would be unrecognisable in this international arena.
I really hope that the voters open their minds a bit in this one. |

A landmark is a landmark, be it for a town, a city, a province/state, a country or the whole world.
It also can be natural or man-made. It can be beautiful or an eye-sore.
The emphasis is, like the challenge descriptor clearly states, to "show off your creative vision in capturing it". Basically, take an interesting picture of something your know is a landmark where you are and let others deal with it.
This is a straightforward challenge that it easy to understand. Just try to have an "out of your backyard" approach to voting.

landmarks! ohh boy i'm doomed. I liable to be the first person in DPC to get a negative score. I live in middle of nowhere. In arkansas there are no landmarks. Nothing of even minor interest ever happens here. Land marks yup they sound like this in arkansas " well go down to the big tree by bubbas farm. Take a left at the chicken house. then go by where all the trees used to be. Go up the hill and go past cooters. When you get down near the creek you'll find the store."
Landmarks... that may just be a heck of a challenge.

I know how you feel, I'm stuck in Switzerland - who's ever heard of a landmark in Switzerland?!? ;)

Wow, your lucky... where I'm at we don't have trees and creeks and hills. |

We live in an old village mill (about 4-500 years old) there is an old milk churn at the front of the house with 'Mühle' (German for 'Mill') handpainted on it - would something like that class as a landmark I wonder.

... and they're standing, euphoric and triumphant- a wry smile spreads across the faces of fallen heros whose shots have been misunderstood and underrated in the past.
Yes, yes, yes!!!

The Matterhorn is pretty recognizable ... at least to folks from Southern California : )
You could take a picture of one of those banks where politicians and crooks hide their money from the authorities : (
Or a Rolex or some Emmenthaler cheese :) |

In Jim Thorpe there's a several ton piece of nearly pure coal sitting in the middle of the town, I would imagine something like this would also count. Anything distinct about a town. Probably something you'd mention while giving directions would be fine. What do you think? |

I have that problem ... I have some really good landmarks available but I've already used them. |

Maybe someday, but I wouldn't post it in this thread or it will end up in the Rant forum : )
Actually, one of the main problems with those Swiss bank accounts is that I don't have one.
I just remembered, I've actually shot one of your best-loved "landmarks"

muckpond, I feel your pain.
I was at Mt St. Helens on Sunday, taking pics of a well known active volcano complete with little puffs of steam/smoke.
Came home, downloaded the photos and at 9pm (that is midnight DPC time) saw the challenge "Landmark".
Boooo hoooo! |
