I went into my local photo equ shop this aft and asked if he had the NIkkor 80-200 f2.8 lens. He didn't but he did have a boxed (as new) Sigma 80-200 f2.8 ex ?? which he priced at £450 ($850). As I said it was boxed with the original plastic wrapper, instruction manua, guarantee and a filter.
I put a small deposit down on it and said would return tomorrow after thinking about it. I need ti for shooting candid shots of guests at events in low light situations. I know it won't have a VR feature but will it be good enough for my needs?

I think you mean the Sigma 70-200 EX 2.8, which is a great lens. I don't have one, myself, but there's no reason why you shouldn't get great candid low light shots from that lens. Check out fredmiranda.com for a review of that lens. My only hesitation is that the price you mentioned seems too high, especially for an "as new" lens.

I used one for two weeks, its a really nice lens, the only thing I didn`t like was its weight but its hard to get around that on a 2.8 tele! |
