My entry was disqualifyed from the 'Time Passing' challenge. I received an e-mail this morning stating the picture I took was not taken in the time in the rules. However- it was. I followed all rules extremely carefully and took it in the right date, even after they asked me for an original for proof...I sent one.

After I sent an original they told me there was something wrong with the file, so I sent it directly off my camera. I never got a response from that, just an angry red disqualification notice on my DPC homepage.

Why would I want to use an old picture to get my shot at winning a ribbon. It's not a 4 dimensional prize, it's a badge showing your skills. Would I really cheat to get this small piece of computer art? No. And if you saw the picture (I can't tell you information about it because that would give away which one it is ;) ) you would see that it was taken souly for the Time Passing challenge.

I'm angry because they couldn't find proof to disqualify me and didn't bother to tell me how to send my proof the right way... Even after I sent several e-mails. They just got lazy and assumed.

I sent the admin an original again off the camera and I even used my video camera to take a picture of the original display on my camera... Hopefully they will finally see. I know DPC must get rid of photos that didn't follow the rules but I made sure I did; this is one of my favourite pictures and wasn't doing too bad in voting either.

So will the admins finally see? Stay tuned for the next episode of "Wrongly Accused."

Joey,

Your camera stores the date and its EXIF information in a nonstandard format. Based on the raw data, the stored date and time we were able to calculate was well outside the challenge dates, assuming that your camera properly follows a known standard to store the date. Far from being lazy, we actually did quite a bit of research to understand how the date is stored in an image file from your camera.

If this is not the case, and the date on the file is within the challenge dates, and you have additional information to support that, you are welcome to contact us and share that additional information. We will reconsider our decision in light of additional information provided.

Thank you

-Terry

They are human; they can err too. Hang in there maybe you'll hear from them soon.

Hey Terry,

What other ways can I prove it was taken inside the challenge date? Hmm... My mom bought the item in the picture for the new house about 2 weeks ago... :)

Bleh, help me out here.

*Edit: I just relized the clock on my camera was set to "1997." I see how you mean. Holy. According to my EXIF data, I was 7 at the time... :S

What is the date stored in the file?

And can you send me the original file direct from the camera? I'll PM you my email address.

If your cam was set to 1997, you're screwed.

As for outside proof - No. It won't be accepted.

I hate to say it, but Matt's right. The 1997 date is in fact what we calculated. Due to past abuses, we no longer accept alternate proof when the EXIF dates are not within the challenge dates.

Best of luck next time round!

That sucks, especially since the camera wasn't even released until 1999!

Been there , it sucked...won't happen twice.
Get ready for the next challenge. :)

Unfortunately there are scum sucking bottom feeders that do cheat on the challenges just to get a pretty ribbon by there name. Because of that there has to be rules like this that will end up screwing people that didn't intend to cheat. Don't be mad at SC, they are just doing their job. It's the bottom feeders that screwed you.

Well thanks guys, I did like my picture a lot but it's better to happen now then when I have a reeeeaaallly good picture. (If I ever do.)

And ericlimon, if your right about the date...which you probably are...that's so strange!

If I took the picture in 1997, I would have been 7. But my face is in my picture and I am most definatly not seven.

Bleuh.

Since it has been DQ'd, can you post it? I'd be interested in seeing it (I haven't completed my voting in Time Passing yet...

Sorry to hear about it, though...

This seems to be a huge fault with Olympus cameras. You have to be really careful with them. It really sucks that something so small can DQ you or lose a ribbon.

Ahhh an Olympusuck. :)

Gotta love them.

Yeah Olympus sucks so bad. My dad bought it when digital cameras were first coming out...In Canada anyways.
Anyway, since I'm allowed...Heres my challenge entry.

Sorry to hear about that Joey.

At least you snuck in 12 other entries, with your framing entry hitting a 6.096!

And no, Oly's aren't too shabby at all.

I can appreciate your feeling. The bright side is that the image DQ is superb, meaning that it is your product and many more as beautiful will come forward. Your work in general is very good and very competitive. Always make sure that when you upload imges that date and time are close enough for the purpose.

Hah, more like MY budget...
Cameras are too expensive for a christmas present from my parents but I have money saved up now and I will put my money I get at christmas from all my relatives toward it... I should then have a start. :)
