It looks like a very interesting new camera. Olympus has always been a fringe player on the A-list with Nikon and Canon. Over the years, they have leaped ahead and then fell back again. They have never been able to hold a firm position on the A-list and seem to be a serious B-list player most of the time. Perhaps this new camera will provide them with just the momentum that they need to move up again. |

Yes but with a specific mount correct ? and specific to their digital line. This is what i do not like being trapped with that ofr now at least. But being a different size it's not probable that sigma/tamron/tokina and co would do lenses for that mount. |

Correct, but Olympus is thinking not for long. the 4/3 proposal is to set the dSLRs apart from their film counterparts. They want all manufactures to abide by the 4/3 standard so lenses could be interchanged not just between bodies of the same manufacturer, but between all manufacturers. This is a pretty gutsy move by Olympus. As Morgan said, they're definitely not the top dog around town. It'll be interesting to see if others follow suit.
It's good because you would no longer be locked into one company by buying their lenses. But at the same time where are all the people that have a stock pile of great lenses already going to go?

From reading the release, the best thing I see is optimizing the lenses for the digital sensor instead of trying to make the sensor fit existing lenses. Could be very interesting to watch and see where this goes. Apparently Kodak is already working with them on this. If they could get some of the other manufacturers to buy in, who knows what could happen.
