I'm Nina, & I'm just starting out on my digital Photography life, not used a camera since I was at school, any help & advice gratefully received. |

Welcome Nina!
The most important thing to know around here is to always edit a copy of your original file, and avoid using transfer software in getting the file from the camera to whatever device you edit on.
There are many helpful tutorials and articles under the Learn menu, and people here are usually more than ready to offer answers, suggestions, or advice if you have more specific questions. |

Welcome!! Just jump right in. Strangely enough, you learn best by entering the challenges that don't interest you. That way you have to think a little harder and learn how to see a little bit more. For things that interest us, a lot of times we're used to doing it the same way over and over again.

Hi Nina!
Welcome to DPC. If you're here to learn, one of the best ways is to comment on as many challenge photos as you can. It's about training your eye to see what works (for you) and what doesn't, and how to compose and edit images that make YOU happy.
And that's the other thing: you will obsess about scores, and wonder why someone gave you a 1. There's no good answer. And it's inevitable. Just warning you that it's going to happen :)

Hi Nina,
Welcome aboard! From my perspective I would do all that is mentioned in this discussion and go over the rules for each type of challenge. On the top of the page the blue line has Challenges on the Menu, at the bottom is a list of rules for each type of challenge (Common Editing , Extended Editing, Minimal editing etc.) This will help you with all the different Challenges and join the fun! |

Hi Nina!
Welcome! I've been a member here for a long time but just recently jumped back into doing challenges. When I first started out, I spent a lot of time here and it was an amazing learning space for me. Hopefully you'll find it's the same for you! Start entering challenges - it's fun and there's an amazing community of people here willing to help and cheer you on!

Jump in with thick skin, before long, you're gonna win. Even if you crash and burn, that's often the best way to learn. |
