Has anyone heard of Porter's? They sent us a catalog (unrequested) and have a lighting setup in there that I am curious about:

Digital Bare Bulb 2-Light Kit:
(2) Digital Bare Bulb flashes
(2) 7 ft. light stands
(2) flash mounts with power cords
(2) 24" umbrellas
Set of 5 colored filters
Nylon storage bag

I don't know what the company is - but it's on the JTL page, so that maybe the company. I don't know if this is even worth looking at?

Does the company have a website? Also you are probably not getting many replys because of the holiday.

The website for the catalog is porters.com

//buyporters.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=45-0617&Category_Code=F3U

This is the link to the equipment I'm talking about.

Well it doesn't sound too bad and the price is quite reasonable.

I came across this guy's store on Ebay who has really inexpensive stuff at times.

2DreamMaker

It's not top of the line, but it doesn't seem too bad. I bought a couple light stands and they work fine.

This is one of the lighting sets he currently has up that appears to be very similar to the one you are looking at. It's currently at $47, with 12 hours left. His pattern seems to be to list something for big, which goes pretty cheap, then come back with the next listing with a Buy It Now, then start the process over again. Point being, if you don't get it the first time, it should eventially come up for bid again.

Lighting set

It's definately not a top of the line flash setup, but if you get it for around $100, I don't think it would be a bad temporary setup, while you save for Alien Bees or something.

Edit: typo

I noticed that Pop Photo thinks highly of the Adorama branded strobe kits.
