It's crazy here today in the Mid-Atlantic region. Normally, with the drone at 400 feet in this direction, I can see the Shenandoah Mountains, which are 48 miles away. This is our view today at 12:30pm, full sunshine (it's trying but extremely diffused).
The smoke is all the way down at ground level. Smells like a campfire.

I have a similar view here in Chicago the last two days. Really bad. Hope they can get those fires under control. |

I was in Glacier National Park last year and experienced the same thing with smoke from wild fires in Canada. It made early morning photos look like the fog and when the sun came up there was an eerie glow. |

Yeah, in Williamsburg, VA we have hazy smoke here, as well, and you can smell it.
It's too bad it's stupid hot and humid, it would actually be a good day to go photograph wildlife/bugs/etc., because it's a giant softbox! |

I've considered it but the air, even at ground level, is so bad - can't be healthy. |

Current recommendation is to wear an N95 or equivalent outdoors -- it's not likely to get better for a few days. |

I was supposed to be traveling this coming week. Nope, staying put. Wear a mask if you're out there. |

Not too many things can faze new york-ers. Now we have three (or more): heat, smoke, Legionnaires outbreak, cyclosporasis.
Wednesday and Thursday was so bad that the babies in strollers wore little masks. But not too many people though.
Besides, the yellowish haze of stuff above the City was not as photogenic as last time!
The talk on the street was about Chicago which air quality index got past our purple to maroon (see Mark's post)! |
