I vote for higher resolution simply because it is annoying trying to reduce the file size to comply with the current limits. |

We've all learned and grown over the years and we filter how, what and where we post, or not. You could take a poll, but by and large these days it would certainly seem that most folks know NOT to post something if they're at all unsure.
I know I'm more comfortable posting here than a lot of places. I know you rabble.....LOL!
I will say that my last entry seemed like it looked poorer on DPC than it did from the image file.

I think the 1200 pixels on widest side is perfect the way it is but yes please increase the file size from the current 1400 kB to something more substantial like 2MB. If we do go for a very large resolution then let's not stuff around but let's go BIG like Facebook size 2048 pixels wide and 2.2MB file size. Ps. I have a 22 inch monitor.

Just as a data point. I usually vote on a 1920 x 1080 laptop and edit my photos on a desktop with a 2560 x 1440 display. So any bump in resolution will not do much for me. I am not opposed to it but I will not really see it with my current gear.
Also the thought of people voting on their tiny phones is scary and probably explains some of my low scores. :) |

yeah -- phone voting is not good. I wish they wouldn't have enabled that. There was a photo that I really really liked on the phone, but when I voted on my laptop, it just didn't hold up.
Also, the images with the fine details get completely lost on the phone. |

It's so easy to make images fit to a DIV regardless of resolution by CSS. So a 1920px ..or even 4k image fits in
it's container regardless of screen size. Almost any modern webpage and app in the last 10 to 15 years does this.
Just add this to the img tag for 1080p/1920px max size, or preferably 1440p/2560px.

From my experience, the issue with phones is a little different. Images that look great on a phone screen can look pretty miserable on a large monitor. I suspect the extra-vivid screens on many phones and tablets tend to hide problems or lost details that become much more obvious on a larger display.
So if detail matters to you, I would recommend not editing and submitting using only your phone. At the very least, check the image on a large monitor after submitting.
p.s. I will research the code to see what is involved in increasing the resolution. |
