Is is possible to do an exposure with a duration over 30 seconds on the Rebel? Thanks.

Yes, you must go into full manual mode, and for shutter speed turn the dial until you reach bulb mode. Now, you need to have a remote shutter with a lock on it so that the lens remains open, unless you trust your finger holding the shutter down for however long you want it.
