...don't have their monitors properly calibrated?
This is the 3rd week in a row I have received a "Too dark" comment when I have specifically looked at this image on over 4 different monitors and it looks fine. At least 2 of them are properly calibrated and the picture looked great.

Though i think it may be monitors in some instances, i also think it may be personal preference in others. I tend to like dark pics. For this challenge site, though, i have found that most of the voters like them brighter. Usually what i do is get my picture where I like it then brighten it as much as possible without losing color, quality, etc. Then, I submit. I don't think I've ever gotten a general "too bright" comment, and I pretty sure i've never seen one here. Overexposure may be a different story. Like you though, the "too dark" gets around quite a bit.

Also remember that a small percentage reads the forums, and of those, teh monitors are probably calibrated, or the owners know the short comings and adjust.

You may be preaching to the choir, as we say around here. :-)

We need to make a weekly tip for photographers

First one being how to adjust your monitor :)
Second one being how to look beyond the image...LOL (this might be an ongoing thing though...some people will never get it)

I totally feel with you here. But I also think it's a personal taste of the people. Personally I like dark photos a lot. Especially night shots. Maybe the fact that I post to this forum at 4 am gives away that I'm a vampire? *g* I hope I'm finished with my work until dawn...
