Here's my B&W II shot that just finished voting:

Now here's another shot I almost submitted in it's place:

Looking at the outtake, I think I made the wrong choice (not to say I'm disappointed with my scoring!)

I for one, loved your entry Brad. (9)
I personally think you picked the right one and did a great job on it!

I agree with brad here. It was not the entry, it was the high amount which prevented proper evaluation. Your shot is nice and it has my 7.

I'm going to have to disagree with the first two comments, and say the crop is really off in the first one, and doesn't look right to me. The second one is much better, and I like it alot. I didn't vote for it, but would have probably give the submitted shot a 5, and the outtake a 7.

Thanks for your comments, Brad. //www.coldbacon.com/pics/rlmasterpiece.gif

Daniel, thank you. I thought the outtake had a finer tonal range, but it's pretty much a toss-up as it's a weaker composition.

Interesting...and I agree, the crop was strange to deal with in the first...as it's not cropped at all! I had a small black background to work with and couldn't back up any further. Thanks for the insight.

You got an 8 from me. I like the outtake just as much.

I am curious what you all think. Not being a "member" here, I don't ahve a portfolio, but at //subjunctivemood.home.mchsi.com/dpbw.html I posted my B&W entry (on top) and what I would have liked to do on the bottom. Note that what I would have liked is illegal under the editing rules. Any thoughts?

I certainly prefer the bottom photo, but only because it seems a more sharply focused, refined image. I wonder, what was done that made it illegal editing? Stem removed?

Stem was removed. Used paths to remove the background to make it pure black. Thanks for your comment.
