B&W II was a challenge with 600+ submissions. With so many submissions, and so many obviously outstanding shots.. (with submissions that appeal to pretty much everyone's tastes).. there are going to be hundreds of beautiful works left in the dust, and in the dredges of 'mediocrity'. Not saying the shots are mediocre by any means, only that in any challenge, great works will fall to the wayside because of other great works.
So, I write this to urge each and every one of you. Spend a half an hour or more, if you can, and go back through many of the photographs that *didn't* show up in the top 10.. or top 20.. go back and look harder and longer at some of the shots that ended up in the top 200, or 300, or even 600, and see if there isn't something in there that you missed the first time around.. or that strikes a chord with you with a chance to look harder at it. Just go back and look, and see that there are some unbelievably fantastic shots that don't fall under the DPC category of "fan favorite" or "mass appeal", and maybe, just maybe, one of us will see a favorite down there, or feel compelled to comment on something, and we'll make a photographer's life happy for one small moment.. that yes, their work was recognized, if only fleetingly, in a challenge where so many could so easily get lost.
