I was curious if anyone caught this program on the Science Channel?
The results Dr. Roger Nelson has come up with are truly interresting!

Dr. Roger Nelson set out in 1998 to try and prove that total global consciousness can effect the physical world. Kind of like on 9/11 when everyone says "There Is Something In The Air". His recordings have shown that on days of natural disasters or terrorist attacks when the worlds attention is drawn to one location or etc. it can effet the physical world.

It does not work for all events say like World Cup Soccer because not everyones attention is drawn to one place.

September 11 2001: Exploratory and Contextual Analyses

Quote:

The mind's extended reach remains to be fully defined in scientific terms, but research on human consciousness suggests that we may have direct communication links with each other, and that our intentions can have effects in the world despite physical barriers and separations. We are compelled by good evidence to accept correlations that we cannot yet explain. It appears that consciousness may sometimes produce something that resembles, at least metaphorically, a nonlocal field of meaningful information.

The Global Consciousness Project (GCP) takes this possibility as a starting point for a speculation that such fields generated by individual consciousness would interact and combine, and ultimately have a global presence. Usually, because we are busy with individual lives, there is little to produce structure in the field, so it is random and not detectable. But occasionally there are global-scale events that bring great numbers of us to a common focus and an unusual coherence of thought and feeling. To study the effects of a possible global consciousness, we have created a world-spanning network of devices sensitive to coherence and resonance in the mental domain. Continuous streams of data are sent over the internet to be archived and correlated with events that may evoke a world-wide consciousness. Examples that appear to have done so include both peaceful gatherings and disasters: a few minutes around midnight on any New Years Eve, the first hour of NATO bombing in Yugoslavia, the Papal visit to Israel, a variety of global meditations, several major earthquakes, and September 11 2001.

The GCP began recording data in August, 1998. It has grown to more than 50 sites around the world, each generating and reporting second-by-second data. Here we describe all aspects of the project, and we provide public access to the data. The top banner buttons or the links below connect you to main sections of the site:

Introduction To GCP

Global Consciousness Project (GCP)

We use devices called random event generators (REG) that usually produce a continuous sequence of completely unpredictable numbers which can be recorded in computer files. Experiments have shown that human consciousness can make the string of numbers slightly non-random when people hold intentions to do so, or when there is a special state of coherent group consciousness. The difference is very small, but statistical analysis demonstrates that this correlation of the REG behavior with something about consciousness is real. It is as if our wishes could change the 50/50 odds of a coin flip ever so slightly.

I do not claim to understand this 100% but I feel I have a grasp of the basics.

This probably is a twist of what Dr Nelson set out to prove but I think on a smaller scale you can relate this to say like your office environment when everyone is in a panic mode for a deadline and all the equipment starts to fail (Murpheys Law). Does all the consciousness and worries within the given area really effect the physical world?

Will your camera equipment fail before a big shoot?

I thought maybe some of the members with a scientific or engineering background might comment :)

I have no background other than the wallpaper on my computer but i find this both compelling and intriguing... thanks for the post!
