I have been told by 2 sales people that for the Rebel the higher speed CF cards will not make a difference. Any opinions on that? |

See this site...
As you can see, there is very little write speed difference amongst the faster cards. You will see a benefit, however, in going from the most basic cards to the faster cards.
You'll also gain in xfer speed to the 'pooter, if you have a fast reader. I elected to go with the Sandisk "ultra II" cards, a good compromise between speed and cost, IMO.

That is very helpful. That would allow my camera to write at almost double the speed of the card I'm using now. |

Yup, and without breaking the bank. I recently bought two Sandisk 1GB Ultra II cards for $82 USD each.
