Do you think a Tripod that expands to 51" (1.29 m) tall fully extended and folds to 20.5" (52 cm) for easy storage is a good height for a beginner?
Thanks

Well, aside from the most important requirement of having 3 legs, the best way to evaluate a tripod is to use it and see.
The adequacy of a piece of equipment is largely dependent on the user and what they want to do with it.

A tripod that doesn't put your camera at your eye height (without extending the centre column!!!) sucks. Avoid it at all costs.

Agree with this 110%, if you have to bend over to look through the camera it just doesn´t do any good at all. Also if you can afford it, try to get one that doesn´t have a center column. Both it destabilazies the tripod and it´s another thing you have to set up besides the legs itself so it takes more time to set up and to put together. That means however that the tripod is probably longer than most others. Anyway, I have gone through 4 tripods so far myself and the fourth is a Manfrotto 055PROB with a 488rct ball head, and frankly the other three were cheaper models I wish I had never bought for if I had gone for a more expensive model like the 055 in the first place I would have saved money in the long run. |
