Hi guy's
I just bought myself 'n Nikon D70 Camera, and I'm looking for a decent lens for it. I am a part time sports photographer, so I need a lot of fast focussing done, but it also needs a decent zoom, since it's mostly rugby or soccer, and the fields are quite big. I've been looking at the Sigma 70-300mm Macro Super Lens, but can't really find reviews on it yet.
Does anyone have good advice as to what lens I should buy? ( My budget is up to about $400 for a lens at the moment ).

At least buy the APO version.
I was thinking the same last summer but finally spent more money and bought 80-200 mm F2.8 Nikon lens. But you could go to the forums at dpreview and searc for it at sigma lens talk or nikon lens talk.
Her are some links I found last summer:
//sdeklerk.com/photography/
general lens tests
//camerasystems.info/bindex2.html
//www.photozone.de/2Equipment/easytxt.htm#Ztele
//www.bythom.com/70300lens.htm if you are interested in the nikon lens 70-300 mm

i have the APO Super II version... if you're gonna get the sigma, get the best one of the 70-300 (which is the APO super II). it's a decent zoom for the money. it has some limitations but if you're willing to work within those limitations, then it's a good deal, and i recommend it.

I have the same lens and it does a very good job outdoors in good sunlight. Especially for the price. I think I got mine new on Ebay for about $175.

I had one that was not the APO version and I was quite pleased with it compared to the money I spent on it but I always knew it was a temporary lens and I sold it when I got the 70-200 2.8 IS and boy, what different results. I think that if I crop the 70-200 2.8 to a 300mm equivalent, I still get much better results than the sigma but if you are on a budget and want a resonable lens, this is a good buy.
I don´t know the equivalent quality lens on the Nikon system but my friend who I sold the sigma to own´s a 300D and a 18-55 kit lens says that the kit lens is very similar to the 70-300 sigma in quality. |
