I just won an auction on ebay for a Canon EOS to M42 screw thread adapter which also includes several macro tubes.

EOS-to-M42 adapter

I have several SMC Takumar lenses that I wanted to try out on the 300D. Has anyone else tried this? These lenses are supposed to be great glass.

I do have the M42-to-EOS adapter, I use it solely with my Peleng 8mm fisheye. It would be neat to try some of the old Zeiss glass as well...
BTW, looks like a nice set-up with the macro tubes included, and for $25 USD? Not bad at all.
I wonder if this adapter willbe "tighter" than mine... mine seems to have just a little bit of rotation when locked in place, but that doesn't seem to affect lens performance.

I haven't tried SMC Takumar lenses (except when I had an old Ashai Pentax 25 years ago), but with my Nikon to M42 adapter I have tried some odd Russian lenses. Of note is the ZENITAR 16mm f/2.8 fisheye, the ARSAT 35mm f/2.8 w/ perspective control, and the 1000 mm f/10 MTO-11CA. The MTO-11CA is a really highly rated mirror lens so you do have the benefit of virtually no chromatic aberration. With the crop factor of my digital camera (1.5) it becomes a 35mm equivalent of a 1500mm lens. The best part is that it can be found on e-bay for about $150-175 plus shipping. Of course none of these will not meter couple with your camera, but neither will the SMC Takumar lenses.

A note on meter coupling; the Canon cameras will still meter when set to aperture preferred mode, the camera just does not record the aperture used, since it hasn't a clue what it was.
It's too bad that Canon users can't use the 1000mm mirror lens, it seems that it interferes with the flash housing. Drat.

Thanks for the responses.

On the subject of mirror lenses, I also use a Celestron C5 with the Rebel that is 1250mm (1.6x = 2000mm) at f/10. NICE images. It has a minimum focus distance of 20 feet. Not bad for $550. That adapter was only $10.

I'll post some images after I get the M42 adapter. I'm real curious to see the image quality with the Takumars.

Cautionary note - I used a M42 adapter with on of the Zenitar 16mm fisheye lenses. I think the lens or the adapter protruded too far into the body and the mirror hit something.

You should be ok with teh 300d or the 20, but the 10d you just have to be careful.

I was looking for a C5 for quite a while, but wound up buying an 8-inch (200mm aperture) Meade, giving f/10 @ 2000mm. I also have the f/6.3 converter for the Meade, making it 1260mm @ f/6.3. I believe the f/6.3 converter works with the C5 as well, since it just uses the same threads as the T-adpater.

Do you have a link for that converter? Sounds interesting.

Do you do any astrophotography with your Meade? Do you have any tips for getting good focus? I know there are several techniques, but I was just wondered if you had good luck with any of the methods.

I mainly take lunar pics with mine.

This is the one I have, Meade calls it a "focal reducer f/6.3". There is also a "focal reducer f/3.3" however the latter apparently only works for CCD imagers, not cameras.
I'm currently working on the drive unit for my 'scope and hope to be doing some astrophotography before the end of the year.
Regarding focus, it's just a bear. I'm planning on making a three-aperture Hartmann mask, like this

Thanks.

Yep, the mask seems to be the easiest thing to use, and they are pretty easy to make too.
