Unfortunately, the former 2nd place winner was DQ'd due to extending the canvas.
Congrats to the new Ribbon and HM winners. |

I disagree with this based on this part of the rule:
use cloning or similar tools to fill in gaps around the perimeters of panoramic or perspective-corrected photos with appropriate bits to continue the interrupted image.
All I did was expand the space with content aware cropping. I did not add anything extra. |

Sorry Tammy, but you increased the size of the canvas by adding new width to it. This isn't the same as just filling in a small corner that may be created with perspective correction or a pano adjustment. You can use various tools for editing, but you're still responsible for the final output of its use.
Here's the before / after of the additional image area that was added (roughly).
Recent similar scenarios (DQ's):

This one makes me curious. Is content aware fill a DQ? Does the DQ fall under the 'graphics or clip art' portion of Common Editing?

Shut up Eric and wait for the explanation. Thanks Glad. It makes some sense to me now!

It would actually fall more under Standard Rules, with the 'You May' section ...
"create your entry from 1 or more captures of a single scene (defined as a scene whose overall composition/framing does not change)."
... the key part being "overall composition/framing does not change" ...
If an image needs more space or "breathing" room for your subject, the legal way to do it is to add a border (and make sure it's a border, inline separation, etc.). Can't just create more canvas that wasn't there initially. |

So by shifting the crop left and 1/8th inch to not have the edge of the feeder, and allowing that to fill in it's a DQ? I would have been better cloning out the tiny bit of feeder left.
I still don't agree. I believe the spirit of the cloning rules were met.

"Shifting the crop left" is a combination of "cropping away the right side" and "adding the same amount to the left side." The rules allow cropping out the feeder, and they also allow cloning it out in-place; but they don't allow adding new image area, even if it's the same amount that was lost to cropping elsewhere. |
