i keep getting glare when i shoot outside lately. now i know that i will get some when i shoot in the direction of the sun, but any tips on how to avoid it? i have a uv filter, and a polarizing filter as well as a hood, and no combination seems better than another. |

different aperture settings will change the effect of the glare, but i don't think there is anyway to avoid it altogether when aiming toward the sun. blocking the sun with an object for a silohoutte might do the trick.
the polarizer isn't going to be much help when aiming toward or away from the sun, they work best with the sun to one side or the other. ( it will also change the effect of the glare though )
the UV filter is more to reduce atmospheric haze, and protect the expensive glass.
the lense hood is to block side light from entering the lense./

Good quality filters, spotlessly clean and double coated. |

Have you tried microfiber clothes yet?

A lot also depends on the construction of lens... i sold my sigma 15-30 because of that. Been getting flare even from the moon at night. |

Using the same kit.
I dumped my 'multi-coated' polarizer about a month after I bought it. Use the Skylight1b now only and find I get far less flare.

As alast resort you could sometimes try to make creative use of the lens flare:
